Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Collection
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) Collection has been a part of the
University of Dayton's Special Collections since the early 1970s when Lloyd Biggle, Jr.
dropped off the first gift of books. The SFWA Collection started as a non-circulating
special collection. While still a special collection, these books now circulate to the
University of Dayton faculty, staff, and students.
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America are
responsible for the Nebula Awards, which are
given to outstanding authors in the genre each year. In order to assure that members of
the SFWA are at least aware of their titles, many publishers circulate complimentary
copies of their releases among SFWA members. These books are eventually donated to select
libraries, including the University of Dayton Libraries.
