Mrs. Berk, a UD alumna--Class of 1944, was a longtime professor with the University of Dayton Music Division.

3A Deger-- Music owned by Urban Deger, professor of music at U.D. from 1921-1961. 3A Frost-- Copies of Explorations: Journal for Adventurous Thought for which Rev. William P. Frost (Religious Studies Dept.) is Editor and frequent contributor. Articles by other U.D. faculty members are published therein. The journal began publication in September, 1982; it is published bi-monthly (every two months) to promote articles in Theology, Religious Ethics and Philosophy, Cultural Anthropology, Spirituality, and Religious Psychology.

3A Horvath-- Two scrapbooks of articles about Bela Horvath, member of U.D. faculty and artist, refugee from Hungary. The materials were given by Mrs. Josephine Horvath after Mr. Horvath's death. Also, in 1981, the Archivist (Linda Keir Hinrichs) visited Mrs. Horvath in her home several times. There are four cassette tapes recording their conversations on these occasions.
3A Horwedel-- An alumnus (1924) and former UD faculty member (1962-79), Dr. Horwedel sent these materials to the University Archives. Included among these papers and memorabilia are copies of three patents granted to Mr. Horwedel; various certificates of recognition; programs, theses, and diplomas manifesting his academic background; and other items reflecting his career interests and recognition of his contributions.
3A Huth, E.-- This series contains publications by and about Edward A. Huth. Including 8 issues of The American Sociological Review (1946-1950), The Catholic Mind, Sep. 1945. Also included are letters and newspaper clippings relating to Fr. John LaFarge and misc. correspondence, articles and a draft of a speech entitled "Juvenile Delinquency in Wartime", given by Dr. Huth at the University of Dayton (1944c.). This series also contains two books signed by the authors to Dr. Huth; LaFarge, John. The Race Question and the Negro and Burton, Katherine. Chaminade, Apostle of Mary, founder of the Society of Mary. The third publication, The Mother the Heart of the Home, contains articles by Edward A. Huth.
3A Jehn-- Materials related to the 1986 ACM Computer Science Conference (February 4-6) and the ACM SIGCSE Symposium (February 6-7). Professor Lawrence A. Jehn, Head of the UD Computer Science Department, was ACM Computer Science Conference Chairman; his wife, Betty L. Jehn, served as Treasurer for the ACM Conference and Chairman for Local Arrangements for the ACM SIGCSE Symposium. Other UD Computer Science Department personnel were variously involved. Material include ACM Computer Science Program and Proceedings as well as ACM SIGCSE Bulletin, 18,1 (Feb. 1986).

3A Morgan-- Three binder (Vol. I, III, and IV) with course notes, handouts, experiments and tests from professor Morgan's own student days at Purdue University (B.S.E.E., 1948). Presumable, he used or consulted these in his own class preparation. (Professor Morgan taught at UD form 1949 through 1979.) Master copy of professor Morgan's thesis, "Aluminum Ribbon Wound Transformers." Unbound thesis was in envelope marked "master copy". It has been bound. (M.S., University of Cincinnati, 1958). These items were among various materials received from the Electrical Engineering Department in 1985.

3A Panzer-- Personal papers of Bro. Joseph J. Panzer, S.M. Includes his papers written while a student at Fordham; publications; notes and writing on guidance; correspondence with publisher of Group Guidance in the Classroom; notes on the subjects of the Virgin Mary, grace, original sin, and the incarnation; notes and outlines for Education 419, 423, and 502; notes on Herbert Spencer, J.J. Rousseau, and John Cardinal Newman; notes, draft, and statement of philosophy on Marianist education; students' papers. Bro. Panzer's specialty was the Catholic philosophy of education. Although Bro. Panzer was Dean of the School of Education between 1966-72, these papers do not include office records of the School of Education. 3A Rappel-- "The Story of Ulrich J. Rappel, S.M. 3A Reichard-- Material which Lawrence E. Tagg (Music Division) received from Cecilia Reichard, widow of Dr. Maurice R. Richard, founder and longtime head of the Music Department at UD. Consists of various handwritten notes which Dr. Reichard assembled on the history of the Music Department at UD and a Two-page typed account of the history of the University of Dayton Band which he prepared in 1973. There is an envelope with "photos of early music at U.D." containing three photographs and the death card of Bro. Louis Vogt, S.M.
3A Ruppel(1)-- These papers were donated to the University Archives by Brother Ruppel in July of 1976. They cover his active participation in the American Association of University Professors(1970-75) and in the American Catholic Historical Association (1974-76)-- especially his chairmanship of Committee "A" for the AAUP and his chairmanship for the ACHA Bicentennial Meeting held at the University of Dayton (March 26-27, 1976).
3A Ruppel(2)-- Two folders contain materials related to Bro. Ruppel's participation in an EPDA Spanish Institute (1969): 1)his lecture notes, tests, evaluative materials and 2) correspondence related to this EPDA Institute and to International Education training and at UD. There is a one- page description of Bro. Ruppel's role in the development of International Education. (Date materials were received is unknown.)
3A Russ-- Materials pertaining to Rev. Gabriel Rus, S.M. Consists of : a plaque bestowed on Fr. Rus by the Dayton Council on World Affairs, to honor him for his role as initiator and counselor for the First Annual World A'Fair, May 31, June 1,2, 1974-- this plaque was sent to the Archives by Marie Milord, International Student Advisor. (located in rm 315)
3A Schraut-- Two binders compiled for the "University of Dayton Tribute to Dr. Schraut", May 9, 1992. The first binder contains copies of letters written by former students to Dr. Schraut as part of the tribute. The second binder contains copies of Dr. Schraut's annual Christmas letter, 1950- 1991.
3A Sherrer-- Records of faculty member Johannah Sherrer dealing with the Faculty Board, 1974-78. Miss Sherrer was chairman of the Board 1976-78. She gave these records to the Archives in 1979 when she resigned from U.D. For other Faculty Board files, see 3BF(1).
3A Vogt-- Musical manuscripts belonging to and composed by Bro. Louis Vogt, S.M. Received from Dick Benedum, music dept., who got them from Mt. St. John. Bro. Vogt taught music at S.M.I and founded the first school band. Includes ms. copy of "Alma Mater is Calling" and "U.D. Anthem" (in black book). In 1989, a scrapbook which had been kept by Bro. Vogt--containing programs for plays and musical presentations given at St. Mary's Institute, late-nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as well as newspaper clippings about various musical events locally and nationally-- arrived at the UD Archives via Mr. George Zimmerman of the Music Division, on behalf of Ms. Connie McKale. Ms. McKale had received this scrapbook along with some other music textbooks from Mrs. Cecilia Reichard, wife of Maurice Reichard, alumnus and long-time faculty member here. The books had gone to the UD library long ago, but this scrapbook had been set aside for perusal. Discovering it recently, she asked Mr. Z. to
deliver it to the proper place on campus. (1883- ).
3A Wehrle-- Laboratory notebooks from experiments associated with three courses (Electrical Engineering and Physics) which Bro. J. Albert Wehrle, S.M., took at the University of Pittsburgh, 1926-28. Bro. Wehrle received his M.E.E. from that institution in 1927 and his Ph.D. in 1930. Bro. Wehrle's teaching career at the University of Dayton began in 1920; in 1943, he became professor of Electrical Engineering. He was named Dean of the College of Engineering in 1948. These notebooks were among various materials sent to the University Archives by the Electrical Engineering Department in 1985. See box list for experiments included there. (1926- 28).
3A Wohlleben-- Personal papers and items of Brother William Wohlleben, professor of chemistry 1909-, and head of the Chemical Engineering Department for may years. Includes his hand-written Ph.D. dissertation for Fribourg University; his Christmas letters written to Alumni, 1927-1959; Some correspondence (incomplete); his biographical sketch of Brother Matthias Haas, S.M.; a testimonial presented to him in 1952 by former students; a testimonial presented to him in 1958 by the Dayton Section of the American Chemical Society; many photographs. Bro John Lucier, S.M., found a box of materials which belonged to Bro. Wohlleben. Included extra copies of his own dissertation, some framed photographs of famous scientists, and miscellaneous books, booklets, periodicals--some with his signature in or on them. Several of these items were added to this set of Wohlleben papers in 1989. (1909-59).
